What motivated you to get involved with CFA Montréal?
I got involved with CFA Montréal because I’ve personally experienced the value of their events and programs, especially the CFA Mentorship Program. As a mentee, I gained invaluable insights from the seasoned industry professional I was matched with. After completing the program, I felt inspired to give back and help others benefit in the same way. Joining the Mentorship Committee was a natural next step for me, as it allowed me to actively shape the program that had such a positive influence on my own growth. It also provided me with the opportunity to continue building connections with both experienced professionals and emerging leaders.
Can you describe your role as a volunteer on the Mentorship Committee?
As a volunteer on the Mentorship Committee, my role involves facilitating the matching process between emerging leaders and experienced professionals, as well as providing ongoing support throughout the year. I work closely with fellow committee members to review applications, which we present to the Matching Committee. This committee conducts interviews with mentees and carefully selects mentors, and we oversee the process to ensure a strong match. Additionally, we organize training and networking events to provide participants with the tools they need to maximize their experience while fostering a sense of community.
What does your commitment to the association bring you?
On a personal level, volunteering for CFA Montréal has allowed me to continue learning and growing. I’ve gained a broader perspective on the challenges and opportunities that emerging leaders face. On a professional level, being involved with the mentorship program has helped expand my network. I interact with highly accomplished professionals, gaining new insights and knowledge. It’s a great way to stay connected to evolving trends in the financial industry while also contributing to the development of future leaders.
What have you discovered most about the association through your involvement?
What surprised me most about the CFA Montréal Mentorship Committee is how mentorship remains appreciated and valuable at all stages of a career. In the CFA Montréal Mentorship Program, we've seen many experienced professionals with up to 15 years of experience apply to be matched with a mentor. This shows that mentorship isn't just for those starting out—it's also beneficial for more seasoned professionals looking to learn, grow, and gain new perspectives. This approach encourages ongoing personal and professional development and helps build connections across different levels of experience.
