Recent CIRO Exam Exemptions for CFA Charterholders

As of January 2026, the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) has implemented a new proficiency framework that includes expanded exam exemptions for recent CFA Program exam passers and CFA charterholders.

Specifically, individuals who have passed CFA Program Level I or higher within the past three years, as well as CFA charterholders, may now qualify for exemptions from CIRO’s Canadian Investment Regulatory Exam (CIRE), Institutional Securities Exam, and Retail Securities Exam.

This change further recognizes the rigor and relevance of the CFA Program in Canada.

For eligible professionals, it may also provide a more streamlined and cost-effective path toward certain CIRO-regulated roles.
