Discover his journey and what motivates his involvement.
What led you to get involved with CFA Montréal?
I discovered the association through a finance professor during a university competition. A member of CFA Montréal, who was volunteering at the event, explained how we could have performed better.
I was looking for more guidance, so I started following the association and its members on LinkedIn. That’s when I came across a post recruiting volunteers. For me, it was a great opportunity to get more involved and to meet professionals.
Tell us about your role as a volunteer in this project.
My role as a volunteer for the welcoming team is very simple: I help ensure that guest arrivals at conferences run smoothly. I check the attendance list, redirect those who are not on it, and hand out name tags with my signature smile for a warm welcome. Finally, I attend the conference and sometimes provide input to help improve future events.
What does your involvement with the association bring you?
It might sound cliché, but on one hand, it’s a way for me to give back after having received so much from the association. I simply enjoy feeling useful. I’ve always done volunteer work and continue to be involved in various causes, whether humanitarian or not. However, volunteering in a field I’m passionate about is especially fulfilling.
On the other hand, I learn a lot every time I attend a conference. These are rare opportunities to speak with professionals who have a unique way of approaching problems. They’ve provided me with a lot of guidance, and I’ve met people with whom I’ve built relationships that go beyond CFA events.
What have you discovered most about the association through this experience?
What surprised me most is the humility and incredible accessibility of the professionals we have here in Montréal. Although the city may not be the largest financial hub, Montréal’s experts are talented and capable of competing with top players in their field.
Moreover, they always take the time to have meaningful conversations with you—whether on financial topics or broader issues. Attending CFA Montréal conferences is always a refreshing and enriching moment in my busy week.
