Karl W. Gagné, CFA, currently serves as the youngest member of CFA Montréal's Board of Directors. He aims to represent the interests of emerging finance professionals while contributing to the organization's strong governance. His involvement seeks to inspire youth to pursue careers in finance with the CFA Charter as a goal, while taking advantage of the resources and network provided by CFA Montréal. He also hosted the 2024 Forecast Dinner.

What led you to get involved with CFA Montréal?
Karl W.: Having obtained my CFA charter at 26, while still a young professional, I realized how beneficial this designation has been for my career. Getting involved with CFA Montréal is a tangible way to help the organization effectively highlight the value of the charter to the next generation and to broaden its presence within the community.
Can you describe your role as a volunteer on the Board of Directors?
Karl W.: The role of a board of directors is to ensure sound governance to maintain the organization's sustainability. As the youngest member of CFA Montréal's board, I feel somewhat like a representative of the interests of younger generations. My role involves ensuring sound governance of CFA Montréal while making sure that generations Y and Z are actively considered in our decisions.
What does your involvement with the association bring you?
Karl W.: My hope is that one day, young people will grow up aspiring to become finance professionals holding their CFA charter, just as some dream of becoming accountants or engineers. My involvement on CFA Montréal's board allows me, in my own way, to help turn this dream into reality.
What have you discovered most about the association through your involvement?
Karl W.: I have been impressed by the range of resources that CFA Montréal provides to its community, charterholders, and candidates. Whether through scholarship programs, mentorship opportunities, or its events, CFA Montréal ensures it nurtures its member network while also supporting candidates in their exam preparations and career paths.
