2026 Survey: Listening to Move Forward

Dear members,

Every two years, our survey provides a valuable opportunity to give our community a voice and to better understand the realities you face in your day-to-day work.

The 2026 edition was redesigned to capture more strategic insights to help inform our thinking and guide our future decisions. While we would have liked to see even broader participation across our membership, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who took the time to share their perspective with us. This is an essential exercise in ensuring that our offering remains aligned with your needs and with the challenges shaping your professional practice.

The results reveal several noteworthy trends. Key themes are emerging, particularly around how you perceive your professional development and the changes affecting our industry. One encouraging takeaway for our Board of Directors—and one that stood out to me—is that the priorities you assign to us, and the role you see as most important for the association, are fully aligned with our mission. Promoting the CFA designation and highlighting your expertise will therefore remain a priority.

At the heart of our mission—“to support the development of our members’ competencies and the advancement of their careers (…)”—the word competencies is key. This is where we see a clear opportunity for improvement, as a majority of respondents indicated that our impact is currently felt more in terms of knowledge. What we are hearing, among other things, is that to better serve you, our content must continue to evolve and our approach should be more targeted in certain areas.

These nuances are extremely valuable to us, and this is just one example of the meaningful insights we have gathered. I also noted the importance of CFA Institute learning resources among your tools—sometimes even ahead of those offered by your employers. This is an important consideration as we shape our programming to ensure it remains complementary. You can count on the Board of Directors to use this data as part of the development of our next strategic plan.

This editorial also coincides with National Volunteer Week. While we believe recognition should be expressed year-round in various ways, this is a perfect opportunity to highlight the exceptional commitment of those who help bring CFA Montréal to life. When we compare ourselves to other CFA societies around the world, which sometimes struggle to recruit volunteers, we consider ourselves very fortunate to count on more than 140 volunteers. This remarkable number reflects the strength and generosity of our community, as well as its willingness to contribute to our initiatives. You may not always see them in action—many work behind the scenes—but their involvement, whether ongoing or occasional, consistently brings meaningful momentum to our work. To each and every one of you: thank you for your time and your extraordinary contribution.

On behalf of the Board of Directors and the entire team, thank you for your continued trust and engagement. We look forward to continuing this work with you—and for you—in the months ahead.

Julie-Andrée Côté, CFA
President of CFA Montréal
