As fall slowly slips into winter, I’d like to take a moment to look back at what has proven to be a very busy start to the second year of my presidency.
There have been several noteworthy highlights in this first quarter, including CFA Institute’s visit to Montreal at the end of October for the Global Society Leadership Conference . There, I had the opportunity to address the leaders of 160 societies from around the world and introduce them to everything that makes our city and our financial ecosystem so special.
Hosting the welcome reception gave us a chance to demonstrate our hospitality and affirm our leadership within this international network. The feedback we received was very flattering, and I was glad to be able to engage in many enlightening conversations with the top brass at CFA Institute, representatives of our fellow Canadian societies and colleagues from around the world.
This was followed shortly thereafter by our annual general meeting, during which we were able to check in with our members and deliver a very positive report on where things currently stand. I am proud of all the work done in 2023–2024 by our staff, our volunteers and our board members, who diligently looked out for our interests and pulled out all the stops to ensure the success of our endeavours during the year. And I am delighted to be starting 2024–2025 with two new directors — François Crémet, CFA, and Hind Abdo, CFA — whom the team is thrilled to welcome aboard.
I am also pleased with the results we achieved with the InvestPact Symposium, a philanthropic initiative supporting young people’s financial literacy that we held a few weeks ago and that has sparked a great deal of interest within our community. It was wonderful to see everyone coming together to make a major contribution to JA Québec. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who worked so hard to raise funds to enable young Quebecers to acquire critical financial literacy skills. I was also deeply moved by the personal accounts of some of the remarkable guests in attendance at the event, which drove home how much of a difference we can make as a community.
As our society has continued to grow, so have the channels we use to communicate with our members and candidates. We are now on Instagram, and I invite you to follow us if you don’t already. Wherever you engage with CFA Montréal, know that your thoughts and insights are very important to us.
With the holidays fast approaching and a New Year on the horizon, I am eager to see what we will accomplish together in 2025. I can assure you that we will set our sights even higher moving forward.
Meanwhile, I hope that you make the most of the magic of the season and that it fills you with joy and inspiration!
Sandy Poiré, CFA
President of CFA Montréal
