Fiery, determined and visionary, Odr\u00e9e Ducharme, CFA, has been at the helm of the Board of Directors for two years after many years of involvement with CFA Montr\u00e9al. As she prepares to hand over the reins in the coming weeks, we asked her a few questions about the industry and the Association. Today, we have the opportunity to delve into her background and achievements to learn more about what she has found during her tenure.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n

Odr\u00e9e, you've been involved with the Association since 2016. Can you tell us about how you got started and what motivated you back then?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

As a member, I regularly attended CFA Montr\u00e9al events. I wanted to make a concrete contribution to the development of an industry based on professional ethics and excellence. I also wanted to be part of this inspiring team of passionate people who want to take the profession further.<\/p>\n\n

What do you take away from this experience?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h5>\n\n

There's never a dull moment at the Association! The challenges are very varied, and I've been able to learn and work on a wide range of issues. I've been able to forge very close links with some extraordinary people who are truly committed and dedicated. It's been a unique experience in my career.<\/p>\n\n

And if I've been able to sow the seeds of an interest in a career in investment among the young women I've been lucky enough to meet at universities in recent years, I'd be delighted.<\/p>\n\n

What are the projects you've carried out with the CFA Montr\u00e9al team that you're most proud of?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

First of all, I'd like to mention the development of the Board of Directors, which has successfully made the desired shift from operations to a more strategic approach. When I took over as President, we had just hired a new General Manager. Two years later, the CFA Montr\u00e9al team is made up of five employees responsible for implementing a substantial business plan, supported in its realization by 100 volunteers who take our mission to heart.<\/p>\n\n

It's extraordinary to see that their commitment has not waned in recent years. On the contrary, it has soared, and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the members and candidates who responded en masse to our recent call for volunteers. We were impressed by the number of applications received, which clearly demonstrates the dynamism of our organization.<\/p>\n\n

One aspect that motivated me is that CFA Montreal has always wanted to be at the forefront of the evolution of the financial community. We were one of only two CFA chapters to sign the CFA Institute's Code of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion when it was launched in 2022. It was a natural step for our Association, which has embodied and promoted these principles for several years now.<\/p>\n\n

It wasn't so long ago that we started organizing face-to-face events again, after a two-year break due to the pandemic. Since then, we've organized several large, sold-out events on a variety of themes (war in Ukraine, economic outlook, alternative investments, family offices, ESG integration). We've maintained world-class programming and have been fortunate to welcome international guests such as Cathie Wood (ARK Invest), as well as homegrown Nadim Rizk, CFA (PineStone). In addition to providing important networking opportunities for the community, our events and guests enjoy increasing media coverage, helping to improve financial literacy in our society and raise the profile of the CFA designation and the expertise of our members.<\/p>\n\n

We have also focused on developing relationships with universities, where we have doubled our presence, as the next generation of the profession is one of our priorities.<\/p>\n\n

For all these reasons, and thanks to the hard work of our team, Board of Directors and volunteers, we won the CFA Institute's Emeritus Association of the Year award for 1000+ members. So it's with a sense of accomplishment that I step down as President.<\/p>\n\n

What advice do you have for young women considering a career in investment? And for the next generation in general?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

For everyone, my message would be: \"Take your three CFA exams as soon as possible and, ideally, start the program while you're still in school. Be ambitious, be bold, and don't be afraid to take on the challenges that come your way\".<\/p>\n\n

To young women in particular, I'd say, \"This industry needs you so much, and it will enable you to achieve more than you can imagine. Join us, you really do belong in our profession!\"<\/p>\n\n

If you could do one thing differently in your career, what would it be?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Honestly, I believe that my mistakes and successes have helped shape me and brought me here. I'd do it all over again.<\/p>\n\n

What do you see as the priority issues for our members and the industry in the coming years?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Technology, artificial intelligence and the impact of climate and social change will transform our profession. Leaders who are open to innovation and who focus on the professional development and fulfillment of their teams, while demonstrating emotional intelligence, will come out on top.<\/p>\n\n

What do you wish CFA members in the future?<\/strong><\/h5>\n\n

Our community has remarkable expertise. Maintaining the values of our designation - professional ethics and excellence - is our responsibility. Wear your CFA designation with pride and continue to invest in developing your skills.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n
