I had completed my Bachelor's degree in Economics and Sociology at McGill University in 2012 and had begun a career in an unfamiliar but fascinating sector: the insurance industry. I became a specialist in directors' and officers' (D&amp;O) liability insurance. Yet, after a few years, I felt my career was stagnating. I realized that I needed to do more to differentiate myself in the job market and advance my career in Toronto's highly competitive financial sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It had always been my goal to further my learning and, in 2015, I researched business programs at various Canadian universities. I thoroughly researched what business schools had to offer and signed up for the QS Graduate School Tour in Toronto. After comparing all the options, Concordia University's John Molson School of Business caught my eye, with a value proposition I considered unique: the opportunity to do an MBA while studying for the CFA program. I was already aware of John Molson's reputation for excellence, as several members of my family had studied at Concordia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An MBA in investment management incorporating the CFA program<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Goodman Institute of the John Molson School of Business offers a program&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.concordia.ca\/jmsb\/programs\/graduate\/mba-cfa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MBA in Investment Management<\/a>&nbsp;which met my needs perfectly. I had already passed the first level of the CFA the year before and wanted to enroll in a program that would allow me to continue working full-time, while remaining close to my family in downtown Toronto. It was an easy decision, and in the end, it was the only program I applied to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to offering an excellent MBA curriculum that incorporates the CBOK (CFA Candidate Body of Knowledge\u2122) allowing students to pursue two globally recognized designations, the program allows students to study in either Montreal or Toronto. It was a great experience to have classmates in both cities, and the support offered between colleagues to better understand the MBA and CFA curricula was paramount to this experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To complement the integration of the CFA program into the MBA curriculum, the Goodman Institute of the John Molson School of Business offers preparatory courses for each of the three levels of the exam. On the one hand, the MBA portion of the program provides students with a comprehensive business education to ensure their success in this field. On the other hand, the CFA portion of the program enables students to add useful knowledge to excel in the financial sector, an environment known to be competitive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Broadening my horizons<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The offers I received and the John Molson alumni I met helped me a lot in my career. I especially appreciated the case competitions, career preparation and financial model workshops, Bloomberg and FactSet training, as well as the networking opportunities organized by Concordia University in both Montreal and Toronto. I've also had the chance to mentor new students, and to be mentored in turn by alumni of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Choosing to do my MBA in Investment Management at John Molson was one of the best decisions I ever made. Everything I learned and all the skills I developed broadened my horizons. It was an intense three-year program, but after completing it, I feel very proud of what I've accomplished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In 2012,&nbsp;<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/chrismasaki\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Christopher Masaki<\/em><\/a><em>&nbsp;obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Economics and Sociology from McGill University. This year, he completed an MBA in Investment Management at the Goodman Institute of the John Molson School of Business (Concordia University).
